Contracts-related background of Alan Patching

Alan Patching is a Quantity Surveyor by qualification and a project manager/project director by experience. He has 36 years experience in delivery of major projects under a wide variety of project procurement methodologies. He has consulted for many years in the area of practical structuring of contracts and projects to suit various development requirements. He has negotiated/administered several billion dollars worth of construction contracts. He has several years experience as an expert witness on contractual issues in major arbitrations and litigations.

Alan lectures on contractual delivery for the George Washington University (of Washington D.C.) Masters Certificate programs at various locations throughout the Middle East. He has recently been appointed as the Chairman of Management Concepts Asia-Pacific, a US based education organisation offering various project management and leadership related courses for the corporate world in the Asia Pacific region, in partnership with the Regis University. He is also an accredited lecturer in contracts (and several other project management related subjects including risk management) for the American University courses.

In 1994, Alan authored the world's first book on Partnering on construction contracts, Partnering and Personal Skills for Project Management Mastery. He is the author of other books, and numerous papers and articles on various aspects of project management.

He was the opening keynote speaker at the 2002 convention of the Australian Institute of Project Management, the opening keynote speaker at the New Zealand Institute of Project Management Convention 2002, and a main platform speaker at the 2003 convention for the Arabian Gulf Chapter conference (attended by 1000 people) of the Project Management Institute. He also delivered a three day workshop on Risk management in the contracts environment as a forerunner to this convention. He has been made an honoury member of the Arabian Gulf Chapter of PMI.
