Introduction - Alan Patching
Today's speaker is perhaps best known as the former Chief Executive Officer of the owning entity of Sydney's Olympic Stadium. He was also the Stadium's Project Director, responsible for overseeing design, construction and pre-Olympic operations.
Alan Patching began his career as a Quantity Surveyor in the Queensland Public Works Department, and moved to project management after 14 years in the public sector. In 1981 he founded Brisbane based project management consultancy Resource Coordination Partnership. He sold that business in 1986 to take up a position as National Projects Director in Australia for Japanese giant developer/constructor, Kumagai Gumi. In all, our speaker has managed or directed over 8 billion dollars of major projects.
He once negotiated the largest property transaction ($1.2 billion plus) in Australia's property history. He also personally negotiated the largest commercial lease ever signed in Australia. Jewellery lovers in the audience might be interested to learn he negotiated the deal to bring Tiffany of New York to Australia. He has been involved with a wide range of business from construction and property consultancy to importing international designer lingerie, and corporate jet charter.
He recently assumed the role of Executive Chairman of Management Concepts Asia Pacific, a Washington DC based organisation in partnership with the American University which offers corporate leadership and project management education. He leads operations in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia. He moved back to Queensland from Sydney in April 2003 to run the business from the Gold Coast. Alan Patching is one of Australia's most in demand international speakers on management and leadership, and is the author of a number of books and audio albums including "The Futureproof Corporation" and 21st Century Leadership (in co-authorship with Dr Denis Waitley of the USA).
