Introduction - Alan Patching
Our next speaker brings us a wealth of tips and ideas from a remarkable business career.
He is Executive Chairman of the Asia Pacific operation of US based Management Concepts, which offers corporate training in management, project management and leadership and boasts offices in Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia.
Alan Patching is probably best known for his role as CEO of the owning entity of the Sydney Olympic Stadium. He was also the owners' project director, responsible for overseeing the design, construction financing and operation of the venue up until the end of the Olympics when he resigned from the position. After the Olympics he was appointed in a consultancy capacity as the project director responsible for preparing the brief and the financial plan and for overseeing the design for the new Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
In all Patching has managed or directed over $8 billion of major development projects, including Hayman Island and Brisbane's Central Plaza. Most of these he managed either under the banner of RCP, which he foundered in 1981 and which remains one of Queensland's most successful project management firms, or in his role as National Projects Director of giant Japanese developer Kumagai Gumi. In the early nineties he negotiated the largest property transaction the country had ever seen, and its largest ever commercial lease.
His well publicised deals soon led to offers to speak at corporate functions and Patching today is rated as one of Australia's leading professional presenters. In fact, in 1996 he was one of 4 professional speakers chosen to represent Australia at an international speakers' congress. He has written several books and audio albums, some in co-authorship with best selling psychologist and motivational speaker Dr Denis Waitley of the USA. He has shared the international speaking platform with such luminaries as Waitley, Dr Wayne Dyer, Dr Tom Peters, Robert Kiyosaki and Zig Ziglar.
